Art Windsor-Essex respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Anishinaabe Territory – the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Ojibway, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi. Today the Anishinaabe of the Three Fires Confederacy are represented by Bkejwanong. We want to state our respect for the ancestral and ongoing authority of Walpole Island First Nation over its Territory.

Windsor-based artist Alejandro Tamayo’s new exhibition explores how context shapes our perception of art. By bringing parts of his studio into the gallery, Tamayo invites visitors to actively engage with his evolving installation, transforming the work through their participation. The exhibition features a 1:20 scale model of the gallery setup, changing walls, and framed objects from Tamayo’s daily life, emphasizing the fluid boundary between everyday items and fine art.
This exhibition forms part of Below the 6, a series of exhibitions that focuses on artists based in Southwestern Ontario whose practices are socially and politically minded. Below the 6 was co-curated by former curator Muriel N. Kahwagi and current TD Curatorial Fellow Niku Koochak. The exhibition is generously supported by TD Bank Group.
