Kissing Cousins: New Acquisitions in Conversationpairs recent acquisitions with historical works from AWE’s collection, highlighting how Canadian artists have always been in dialogue with the issues of their times.Join co-curator Lana Zagoric and artist Catherine Heard for an insightful guided talk exploring Heard’s work and its connections within the collection.

Catherine Heard is an interdisciplinary artist whose work integrates traditional textile techniques into sculpture and installation. She uses historical crafts such as embroidery as a foil for complex narratives and challenging subject matter, including histories of the body, war, and injustice. Her most recent projects invite public participation, engaging the conversational dynamics of the quilting bee.

Heard’s work has been exhibited internationally and is included in the permanent collections of the Canada Council Art Bank, the Art Gallery of Hamilton, the Art Gallery of Kamloops, the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, and the Art Gallery of Windsor. She lives in Windsor, Ontario, and serves as an Assistant Professor at the School of Creative Arts at the University of Windsor. Catherine Heard is represented by Birch Contemporary Gallery.
