PD Day at AWE: Painting Adventures
Looking for a fun and creative way to spend a PD Day?
Youth ages 6-12 are invited to the gallery for a full day of hands-on artmaking, exhibition tours, and outdoor activities. Each PD Day focuses on a different artistic technique and medium, giving participants the chance to learn new skills, explore the galleries, and spark their imagination in our education studio!
The program is led by AWE’s team of Artist Educators and includes both guided and self-guided activities. Our programs include art-making activities in the studio, guided lessons, lunch and snack break and outdoor play.
November 14: Painting Adventures
Explore colour, brushwork, and mixed media as you create your own artworks inspired by the gallery’s collection and current exhibitions! Campers will experiment with a variety of techniques from washes to blending, to bring their ideas to life on paper and canvas.
What You’ll Learn:
- Sketching your ideas: Plan your composition with preliminary sketches
- Acrylic painting: Learn to layer, blend, and build with acrylics.
- Technique building: Explore bold lines, washes, and textures using inks and watercolours.
- And so much more: mixed-media and pastels, collaborative games and art challenges.

We welcome campers between 6 and 12 years old.

- 8:30am: Early Drop-Off
- 9am: Drop off at front doors
- 9am to 12pm: Campers are in the education studio or in the gallery exploring exhibitions. Snack break at 10am.
- 12pm to 1pm: Lunch and recess at the park.
- 1pm to 4pm: Campers are in the education studio or in the gallery exploring exhibitions. Snack break mid-afternoon.
- 4pm: Pick up at front doors.
- 5pm: Late Pick-Up
- Early Drop-Off is at 8:30am
- Regular Drop-Off is at 9am
- Regular Pick-Up is at 4pm
- Late Pick-Up is at 5pm
The front doors will be locked to the general public until 10am. An AWE staff member will greet you at the front door for check-in and lead them to the 2nd floor Education Studio. For pick-up, the campers will meet parents and guardians at the front door at the main entrance of the gallery.
Please pack:
- a peanut-free lunch and snacks
- a backpack
- a reusable water bottle
- outdoor gear (hat, running shoes, sunglasses)
- a sweater (it gets cold in the gallery!)
- a smock or apron, a change of clothes (things will get messy!).
All art supplies provided but we encourage you to bring a personal sketchbook. Note: Please leave all electronics at home.
All cancellation requests must be received in writing by email to [email protected]. Art Windsor-Essex reserves the right to cancel or combine programs if minimum registrations are not achieved 14 days prior to a camp’s start date. Full refunds will be made in the event of program cancellation.
