Art Windsor-Essex respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Anishinaabe Territory – the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Ojibway, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi. Today the Anishinaabe of the Three Fires Confederacy are represented by Bkejwanong. We want to state our respect for the ancestral and ongoing authority of Walpole Island First Nation over its Territory.

Gardening and Seed Bomb Workshop⎮ 5pm – 9pm, 2nd floor, Education Studio
Got a green thumb? Join us in the studio for a gardening workshop! Learn how to repot, transplant and grow native plant species from Amanda White’s living installation, A Breathing Room (2015-2022). A Breathing Room houses the number of plants (approximately 300!) necessary for one person to breathe symbiotically with plant life. Amanda White’s work sits at the intersection of art, environment, and cultural studies. Make and take seed bombs that will bring local flowers to our communities. These small pods are perfect for tossing anywhere that needs an extra burst of flowers. Watch as our community blossoms!
Stop-Motion Film Fest⎮ 6pm – 9pm, 3rd floor
How can we make objects come to life? Discover a series of stop-motion films created by participants from the Secret Life of Objects: Stop Motion Animation Workshop. The films will be screened, on a loop, starting at 6pm throughout the evening. Join in on the fun and create your own animated clay characters.
Guided Tour of the Chimczuk Museum⎮ 6pm – 6:30pm, main floor
Explore the Chimczuk Museum! Led by Museum Windsor staff, discover the museum’s new exhibitions including Skawennati’s Teiakwanahstahsontéhrha’ We Extend the Rafters and Windsor: Cycling City. The Chimczuk Museum’s Children’s Gallery and Learning Space will be open for self-guided activities and crafts.
In Conversation: Catherine Hois and Muriel Kahwagi ⎮ 6:30pm – 7pm, 2nd floor galleries
Join artist Catherine Hois and curator Muriel Kahwagi for an artist talk and guided tour of Hois’ current exhibition, Catherine Hois: Disruptive Body. Her work explores how our anxieties inscribed into our flesh and how they reflect our lived experiences. Drawing on her own relationship with her body, Catherine Hois’ sculptural and video works address these questions by reflecting on her struggles with an eating disorder and body dysmorphia, and her ongoing healing process.
This exhibition forms part of Below the 6, a series of exhibitions that focuses on artists based in Southwestern Ontario whose practices are socially and politically minded. Below the 6 is curated by TD Fellow Muriel N. Kahwagi and is generously supported by TD Bank Group.
Renewable Energy? A Community Conversation ⎮ 7pm – 7:30pm, 3rd Floor
Background: In 2017, the City of Windsor launched its Environmental Master Plan which aims to make the city cleaner, greener, healthier, and more sustainable. Windsor was also recognized by the Carbon Disclosure Project as an A-List city amongst municipalities across the globe that are taking bold leadership on environmental action and transparency. In recent news however, the province is struggling to keep up with electricity demand in the Windsor area and new projects are threatening surrounding ecosystems.
Energy is a local issue that affects us all. How will our community handle increasing energy demands and reach its net zero goals? How can we build and sustain clean, and long-term energy supplies?
Music, food, and drinks ⎮ 6pm – 9pm, 3rd floor
Let’s celebrate! Head up to the third floor to join us for music, food and drinks provided by Windsor Eats and CJAM 99.1 FM.
