Art Windsor-Essex respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Anishinaabe Territory – the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Ojibway, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi. Today the Anishinaabe of the Three Fires Confederacy are represented by Bkejwanong. We want to state our respect for the ancestral and ongoing authority of Walpole Island First Nation over its Territory.

Art Activity: Yarn Birds with Alexandria Masse⎮  5pm – 8:30pm, 2nd floor, Education Studio

Alex Masse is back in the studio! Create a small yarn bird, just in time for spring. Come solo or bring a flock—everyone’s welcome! Materials and instructions provided.

Alexandria Masse s a textile and fibre artist from Wawiiatanong (Windsor, ON) whose work blends wearable art, soft sculpture, and cultural storytelling. Using techniques like sewing, knitting, and crochet, she explores identity, memory, and matriarchal craft traditions. Inspired by her mother’s culture and the natural world, Masse reclaims space through playful, intricate creations that challenge the boundaries of contemporary craft.

Curator Tour: A Snapshot of Windsor’s Literary History with Marty Gervais ⎮  6pm – 6:30pm, main floor, Museum Windsor

Join Guest Curator Marty Gervais as he discusses his new exhibition and highlights some interesting stories from Windsor’s Literary Past. This event is organized by Museum Windsor.

Marty Gervais is an award-winning poet, journalist, photographer, playwright, historian, editor, and teacher. He is also the City of Windsor’s 1st Poet Laurette and current Poet Laureate Emeritus as well as the publisher of Black Moss Press.

Community Conversation: Jane’s Walk⎮  6:30pm – 7pm, 3rd floor galleries

Every year, cities around the world organize Jane’s Walks to celebrate and explore their neighbourhoods. Led by volunteers and free to attend, these guided walks and talks introduce participants to the history, ecology, architecture, and people that shape local communities. This year, Windsor-Essex Jane’s Walk is hosting 55 events across more than 20 neighbourhoods—highlighting a strong desire for community-led programs that help us better understand the world around us. What can we learn from these walks, and how might they inspire us to see our everyday spaces in new ways?

Moderated by Tammy Dewhirst

Speakers:

  • David Garlick, member of Les Amis Duff-Bâby
  • Mary-Katherine Whelan, Curator/Administrator of the Amherstburg Freedom Museum
  • Ken Acton, The Windsor Region Society of Architects

Artist Talk: Kristina Bradt ⎮  7pm – 7:30pm, 2nd floor galleries

Join us for an artist talk with Kristina Bradt, curator of The Tiny Art Vending Machine—a playful project bringing small-scale art to unexpected places. Kristina will share insights into her creative process, where memory, chance, and curiosity collide. Learn how her multidisciplinary practice and community-driven approach make space for art in everyday life.

Launched in June 2022, the Tiny Art Vending Machine is a curatorial project that brings affordable, small-scale artworks to the Windsor-Essex community. For $4, patrons receive a capsule containing a surprise piece from local artists, with all proceeds reinvested to commission new works.

Performance: Stitching Segmented Memories with Behnaz Fatemi ⎮  7:30pm – 8:30pm, 2nd floor galleries

Stitching Segmented Memories is an ongoing project that began during Fatemi’s MFA thesis exhibition at the University of Waterloo Art Gallery (UWAG) in 2024. The work evolves with each performance, as new names are embroidered onto the fabric surface. Through live embroidery on a handmade, layered dress with a long train, Fatemi honours the names of loved ones and those who are missing—reflecting on themes of displacement and resilience.

The audience is invited to participate by stitching the name of a loved one they wish to remember.

Music, food, and drink ⎮ 7pm – 9pm, 3rd floor galleries

Let’s celebrate! Head up to the third floor to join us for music by DJ Brent Scudder, food and drinks by Windsor Eats, and good vibes.

Photography and videography will be present throughout the event. By entering this event site you agree to be filmed or photographed which may be used for marketing or promotional purposes.
