Calligraphy Workshop with Soheila Esfahani

5pm – 8:30pm, 2nd floor, Education Studio

Join artist Soheila Esfahani in the studio for a hands-on calligraphy workshop inspired by her practice, which blends traditional Persian script with contemporary art. Learn the basics of calligraphic mark-making using ink and reed pens, and explore how language can become visual art. No experience needed, just bring your creativity!

Guided Tour: Nature in Tapestry - The Art of Mary Anne Barkhouse

6pm – 6:30pm, 3rd floor galleries

Discover the animals, plants, and landscapes woven into the intricate tapestries of artist Mary Anne Barkhouse. Led by Carolyn Brown, an interpretive guide from the Ojibway Nature Centre, this tour offers insight into the natural themes and species represented in Barkhouse’s work, connecting art and ecology in meaningful ways.

Community Conversation: Cultural Property and War

6:30pm – 7pm, 3rd floor galleries

Conversation organized by Christopher Waters, Professor of International Law at the University of Windsor

Armed conflict continues to endanger cultural heritage, from looted artifacts to the destruction of sacred sites. This panel brings together voices from history, law, and art to explore how war affects identity, memory, and peacemaking, and what can be done to protect our shared heritage. Topics include Canadian and international legal protections, as well as the vital role of curators in researching the provenance of artifacts to ensure ethical museum practices in conflict and post-conflict settings.
