Art Windsor-Essex respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Anishinaabe Territory – the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Ojibway, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi. Today the Anishinaabe of the Three Fires Confederacy are represented by Bkejwanong. Call for Participants: Waawiyaataanong Forever
Waawiyaataanong Forever is a photography and postcard project focusing on the representation of Indigenous women and two-spirit folks and their families in Windsor-Essex. The project will culminate in an exhibition of the photographs and a celebration at Art Windsor-Essex (AWE).
We are looking for community members to present themselves alongside street signs (Munsee St, Tecumseh St, Iroquois Street…) in Windsor that bear their nation’s name.
This photography project, in partnership with AWE, was developed by a committee of Indigenous community members. This is an Indigenous-led project. Let’s have your portrait taken by an Indigenous/woman/two-spirit-led production team!
This project is open to First Nations, Métis and Inuit women and two-spirit community members. In regalia or street fashion, we want you to represent how you want to be seen. Each participant will receive a $200 honorarium for their participation. We will ask you to share who you are, where you are from and why representation matters to you.
Spaces are limited; we will schedule folks to illustrate as many site locations as possible. Photoshoots will take place in Windsor between June and October 2023.
