Art Windsor-Essex respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Anishinaabe Territory – the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Ojibway, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi. Today the Anishinaabe of the Three Fires Confederacy are represented by Bkejwanong. We want to state our respect for the ancestral and ongoing authority of Walpole Island First Nation over its Territory.

Dancing in the dark: A free-flowing movement workshop
Time and Date: Thursday, May 18, 7pm-7:30pm and 8pm-8:30pm
Location: South Project Gallery, 2nd floor
Put on your dancing shoes and join us for a dance and movement therapy workshop! Led by artist Catherine Hois, this workshop is inspired by the Toronto-based No Lights No Lycra movement, a casual, free-form dance jam that prioritizes mental wellbeing and the joy of movement.
This workshop will happen in total darkness, but fear not! Participants will be provided with glowsticks to break the darkness. With a focus on mindfulness, improvisation, and movement exercises, this workshop will offer a space for self-reflection, helping you to embrace and connect with your own body.
Kindly note that places are limited. Participants will be able to join on a first-come, first-served basis.
This workshop is programmed in conjunction with the exhibition Catherine Hois: Disruptive Body, on view at AWE until May 28, 2023.
This event is part of AWE at Night: May 2023 . Admission to attend AWE at Night is $10. Members always have free admission.
Schedule:
- First dance block: 7pm-7:30pm
- Second dance block: 8pm-8:30pm
Photography and videography will be present throughout the event. By entering this event site you agree to be filmed or photographed which may be used for marketing or promotional purposes.
About the Artist: Catherine Hois
Working across painting, sculpture, and video, Catherine Hois’ multimodal practice takes the human body as a starting point, revealing the hidden strains and anxieties that are housed within it. Born in Schomberg, Ontario and currently based in Windsor, Hois graduated from the University of York with an MFA. Disruptive Body is her first solo show.
