Art Windsor-Essex respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Anishinaabe Territory – the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Ojibway, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi. Today the Anishinaabe of the Three Fires Confederacy are represented by Bkejwanong. We want to state our respect for the ancestral and ongoing authority of Walpole Island First Nation over its Territory.

This event is part of the Amherstburg Art Crawl.
Join RBC Emerging Artist in Residence Hrista Stefanova for a unique frottage workshop where you can explore the art of rubbings using a combination of neutral and multi-coloured drawing tools.
We’ll start with a short demo followed by a short guided walk down Murray Street to find interesting and historical textures: on buildings, sidewalks, plaques, and roads. Capture these textures with your rubbings and transform them into a collage masterpiece!
Frottage, derived from the French word for “rubbing,” involves placing paper over a textured surface and rubbing it with a drawing medium (such as pencil, charcoal, or crayon) to capture the surface’s texture. This technique transforms the city into a matrix, encouraging participants to seek the hidden beauty in everyday spaces and architectural features.
All necessary materials will be provided, and no prior art experience is required. This event is rain or shine!
