Weekends in the Studio! We Remember Them with Batoolio

DATE: Saturday, November 30, 2024
TIME: 1pm- 4pm
LOCATION: 2nd floor, Education Studio
COST: Free with regular gallery admission and free for AWE members

In this community-based mural installation, participants will come together to create a large, collective poppy field. On the day of the workshop, artist Batoolio will prepare a backdrop where each participant can add their own paper poppy. You’ll also have the chance to incorporate collage, words, and symbols, building a field of remembrance.

Weekends in the Studio is generously supported by Anne Safranyos and family.

Meet the Artist: Batoolio

Batool “Batoolio” Yahya is a self-taught Palestinian-Canadian artist who identifies with abstract expressionist, and Art Brut movements. She is known for her fantastical-like visual journeys sometimes described as confusing to the viewer. She is an activist who believes art is a necessary integration for vitality in community, and works in the community to uplift artists facing boundaries to success through her 2023/2024 ACHF-grant funded project, HeArt from the Streets (formerly “Colors of Resilience”).
