Art Windsor-Essex respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Anishinaabe Territory – the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Ojibway, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi. Today the Anishinaabe of the Three Fires Confederacy are represented by Bkejwanong. We want to state our respect for the ancestral and ongoing authority of Walpole Island First Nation over its Territory.

Weekends in the Studio! Colourful Collage Portraits with Batoolio
DATE: Saturday, November 2, 2024
TIME: 1pm- 4pm
LOCATION: 2nd floor, Education Studio
COST: Free with regular gallery admission and free for AWE members
Batoolio is back in the studio with a series of workshops on remembrance, memories and landscape.
Artists are encouraged to create portraits using experimental colour choices, in the shape of funky-looking shapes cut out of paper, in the style of Fauvist pioneer, Henri Matisse. This is to encourage trust for the artists eye and experiment with different techniques and colour palettes.
Meet the Artist: Batoolio
Batool “Batoolio” Yahya is a self-taught Palestinian-Canadian artist who identifies with abstract expressionist, and Art Brut movements. She is known for her fantastical-like visual journeys sometimes described as confusing to the viewer. She is an activist who believes art is a necessary integration for vitality in community, and works in the community to uplift artists facing boundaries to success through her 2023/2024 ACHF-grant funded project, HeArt from the Streets (formerly “Colors of Resilience”).
