Art Windsor-Essex respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Anishinaabe Territory – the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Ojibway, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi. Today the Anishinaabe of the Three Fires Confederacy are represented by Bkejwanong. We want to state our respect for the ancestral and ongoing authority of Walpole Island First Nation over its Territory.

Barbara Astman: Clementine Part I
November 20, 2004 - January 16, 2005
AWE Gallery
Toronto artist Barbara Astman created Clementine Part I after seeing a newspaper photograph of orphans arriving in Canada in 1947. Astman saved the photograph and kept coming back to it, wondering what the story behind their smiling faces was. She was struck by their apparent happiness in relation to their traumatic experiences as survivors of war.
Clementine Part I celebrates the lives of these orphans and of the countless other anonymous individuals who have been dsiplaced by war.
Barbara Astman has exhibited in Canada and internationally since the 1970’s.
