Art Windsor-Essex respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Anishinaabe Territory – the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Ojibway, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi. Today the Anishinaabe of the Three Fires Confederacy are represented by Bkejwanong. We want to state our respect for the ancestral and ongoing authority of Walpole Island First Nation over its Territory.

Community Display: Bezhig Miigwan / One Feather
September 3, 2024 - December 3, 2024
WFCU Eco-Lounge, 3rd floor
Art Windsor-Essex partnered with Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board’s Indigenous Student Success Coach on a display of artworks made by students in Windsor-Essex.
The goals of the display are to promote student engagement and cultural expression through art, empower students and celebrate their talents, and foster collaboration and partnership between AWE and the WECDSB.
The theme of the display is bezhig miigwan, meaning “one feather”, that symbolizes each survivor, each child lost and denotes that we are all connected. It is vital to work together to achieve reconciliation. It honours the experiences of Indigenous Peoples, celebrates resilience and affirms a commitment that every child matters. The feathers represent our collective commitment to working together to achieve truth and reconciliation.
The works will be on display in the WFCU Eco Lounge on the third floor from September 3rd to November 3rd, 2024. The display will be on view for Orange Shirt Day (free admission to the gallery on Saturday, September 28th).
