Art Windsor-Essex respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Anishinaabe Territory – the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Ojibway, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi. Today the Anishinaabe of the Three Fires Confederacy are represented by Bkejwanong. We want to state our respect for the ancestral and ongoing authority of Walpole Island First Nation over its Territory.

Community Display: Taking Care: Where Art Meets Wellness
January 15, 2025 - February 2, 2025
WFCU Eco-Lounge, 3rd floor
Since 2021, Taking Care has brought together over 1,500 participants from southwestern Ontario and beyond for 50+ virtual wellness workshops. This program combines art and wellness, offering a transformative space for self-discovery, emotional connection, and community building.
Each session begins with mindfulness and group check-ins, followed by exploring a theme through AWE’s art collection and creating personal works of art. Activities range from yoga and guided meditations to journaling, poetry, and crafts. Participants have embraced projects like self-care collages, abstract watercolors, sculpture, and photography, reflecting on themes of stress, loss, hope, and transformation.
Taking Care fosters a welcoming, supportive environment where participants feel heard, valued, and inspired. Over time, many have shared their personal stories, deepening connections within the group. Art created during the program has become a source of joy, peace, and wellness for participants.
When asked to describe their experience in one word, participants responded: connected, inspired, and fulfilled.
