Community Display: The Detroit River Project

May 15, 2025 - September 28, 2025

Second Floor

Kimberly Simmons of the Detroit River Project, in collaboration with the Sauvé Art Foundation and the Art Windsor Essex, highlights the transformative power of art in fostering community engagement and cultural understanding. This partnership ensures that the story of the Detroit River will continue to inspire future generations. By blending artistic expression with efforts to preserve this history, the project aims to secure UNESCO World Heritage Site designation for the river.

As part of its international sculpture exhibit, the Sauvé Art Foundation provides children with opportunities to create and showcase artwork inspired by the “Man in the City” sculpture project. Hosted at the Art Windsor Essex in Ontario, this exhibition serves as a platform for young artists to explore and express historical and cultural narratives through art.

By involving children in this creative process, the Sauvé Art Foundation fosters a deeper understanding of history, empowering future generations to connect with and preserve important cultural legacies. Through this partnership, the Detroit River Project not only underscores the river’s significance but also ensures its enduring legacy through artistic initiatives and its bid for UNESCO recognition.
