Art Windsor-Essex respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Anishinaabe Territory – the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Ojibway, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi. Today the Anishinaabe of the Three Fires Confederacy are represented by Bkejwanong. Contemporary Voices is comprised of 22 works by contemporary six nation’s artists Shelley Niro and Jeff Thomas. The exhibition creates a dialogue between the two artists who use photography to explore narratives of the past and present and how they intersect. Together the work sheds light on issues of identity and representation, stereotypes and icons and agency and control.
