Art Windsor-Essex respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Anishinaabe Territory – the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Ojibway, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi. Today the Anishinaabe of the Three Fires Confederacy are represented by Bkejwanong. We want to state our respect for the ancestral and ongoing authority of Walpole Island First Nation over its Territory.

Jenny Holzer: Inflammatory Essays 1979-82
July 11, 2009 - October 11, 2009
AWE Gallery
American artist Jenny Holzer’s text-based conceptual works rank amongst the most direct and compelling art of the last 30 years. The Inflammatory Essays are starkly designed italicized texts which were originally posted on Manhattan’s streets. Each consists of 20 lines chosen from folk and religious literature and political manifestos. As depersonalized as they appear, lacking signature or attribution, The Inflammatory Essays become shouted challenges to the public.
