Art Windsor-Essex respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Anishinaabe Territory – the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Ojibway, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi. Today the Anishinaabe of the Three Fires Confederacy are represented by Bkejwanong. We want to state our respect for the ancestral and ongoing authority of Walpole Island First Nation over its Territory.

Marty Gervais: A Show of Hands
August 21, 2004 - December 5, 2004
AWE Gallery
Marty Gervais has become a fixture on the boxing scene, a ringside documenter who has gathered observations and personal accounts of some very interesting young people with stories to tell. For this exhibition, Gervais followed the boxers from the Border City Boxing Club in Windsor to the Kronk Gym Boxing Club in Detroit. This project represents a rare partnership between art and sport. The project started in November of 2003 with a few photographs of young boxers. For the next eight months, Gervais spent time around the ring. The images gathered for this project reveal a common theme: time and training giving way to epiphany.
