Art Windsor-Essex respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Anishinaabe Territory – the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Ojibway, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi. Today the Anishinaabe of the Three Fires Confederacy are represented by Bkejwanong. We want to state our respect for the ancestral and ongoing authority of Walpole Island First Nation over its Territory.

AWE Gallery
To complement Steven Andrews: Likeness is an exhibition of portraits from the AGW collection selected by Steven Andrews himself.
Mirror, Mirror extends Andrews’ inquiries into ideas about identity and the similarities between people. Historical and contemporary paintings spanning several hundred years are brought together in a way that creates poetic relationships between the artworks and the people depicted. The display points out how the genre of portraiture has changed over hundreds of years. The portraits are arranged to emphasize the power of the gaze, both that of the person depicted and that of the viewer.
This exhibition continues our ongoing series, Artists Select, in which artists are invited to respond to the AGW collection, resulting in fresh and unique interpretations.
