Art Windsor-Essex respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Anishinaabe Territory – the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Ojibway, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi. Today the Anishinaabe of the Three Fires Confederacy are represented by Bkejwanong. We want to state our respect for the ancestral and ongoing authority of Walpole Island First Nation over its Territory.

Sara Graham: Cut-outs, Offcuts, and Cast-offs
March 14, 2023 - May 28, 2023
Second Floor
Sara Graham’s work explores ideas and issues of the contemporary city. Looking at the connections and disconnections between the built environment and the landscape it occupies. Networks, maps, flow and pause. Much of her work is inspired by the way she experiences the city through walking or using public transit. Walking in a city opens new possibilities. There is room to think while moving through a city, to notice, to wonder. Perspective, texture, connection.
Taking a cross-disciplinary approach and often employing the methods and materials of architecture and city planning. Her work proposes alternative ways of looking at the city and its parts. Using the real to construct the imagined. The results range from paper, sculpture, photography, and commercial materials to large scale public artworks. Additional projects like Sculpture a Day (SAD) with collaborator Brynne McLaughlin relate, and sometimes complicate the relationship between encounters with unexpected objects within and outside of an artistic practice.
Sara Graham’s works have been shown across Canada. Sara was commissioned to create the facade for a building as part of the Gordie Howe International Bridge Project set to open in 2024.
