Good News! AGW at Centre of Cultural Hub

The AGW and Windsor Public Library join forces! Thanks to the future development of the City of Windsor's aquatic complex and a new Library presence at the AGW, all signals are GO for the beginning of a cultural and recreational renaissance in downtown Windsor. The Gallery has long awaited this development, and these projects support the birth of a genuine cultural district.

"This is just the beginning of a transformation happening in this section of the city", said Windsor Mayor Eddie Francis.  "It will open the AGW to a wider audience, provide a state-of-the-art home for the Library and be the perfect neighbour to our aquatic complex."

AGW Director Catharine Mastin says "the potential of this partnership is unlimited, strengthening access to diverse audiences within our shared community space. Collaborative programming, along with enhanced educational opportunities will provide an expanded and positive visitor experience."

The AGW and the Library have maintained critical roles in the development of social literacy, to encourage the knowledge and appreciation of visual and written forms of communication.Details and timing of the co-location will be worked out in the coming weeks and months with a spring 2012 as a target date for this transition.

The City of Windsor is currently negotiating with the AGW Board of Directors to purchase the building. The purchase should be completed early 2012.
