A Sunny Day in Brock Park: Stop Motion Animation

The visionaries created a whimsical representation of a local waterfront park as a stop motion animation.

About the Workshop

The Sandwich Visionaries created a series of stop motion animations set in Brock Park on the waterfront in Sandwich.  Artist/Animator Catherine Hois showed us how to make stop motion puppets. Participants then spent several sessions creating their stop motion puppet avatars using animation wire, sculpey, and fabric.

We then built a set and spent another couple of sessions making stop motion animations using our puppets under Catherine’s guidance.

Once the animations were complete, we had another workshop where local musician and educator Bilal Nassar led the group in the creation of the soundtrack. We  created soundtraacks with the android app Bandlab and  recorded vocal sound-effects for the animation during this workshop. You can hear the students’ sound work in the finished video.

About the Artist: Catherine Hois

Catherine Hois: Working across painting, sculpture, and video, Catherine Hois’ multimodal practice takes the human body as a starting point, revealing the hidden strains and anxieties that are housed within it. Born in Schomberg, Ontario and currently based in Windsor, Hois graduated from the University of York with an MFA. Disruptive Body is her first solo show.

About the Artist: Bilal Nasser

Bilal Nasser: Bilal Nasser is a Palestinian-Canadian guitarist and composer from Windsor Ontario known for his ability to blend his classical guitar background with his passion for more experimental genres such as post-rock, shoegaze, and drone. Through his unique output he is known to challenge assumptions as to what classical guitar music can be, resulting in a signature sound often described as “Post-Classical“. Bilal has toured extensively throughout Canada, performing original music in unconventional and DIY spaces like skate parks, warehouses, luthier’s workshops, and more. Bilal is the first ever classical guitarist to have a mosh pit at a show.
