What Gets to Be History?: A Community Conversation ⎮ 6:30pm – 7pm, AWE 3rd floor galleries

How can we safeguard our communities histories in the lack of archival records? What do public records and institutional history tell us about our past, and what do they omit? How can oral history help us to reclaim our heritage? This conversation will center on oral history’s ability to empower local communities, and the ways in which personal narratives can function as a tool to preserve history.

Moderated by Craig Pearson.

Artist Talk: Sarah Maloney ⎮ 7pm – 7:30pm, AWE 2nd floor galleries

Sarah Maloney, RCA (b. 1965) is a contemporary sculptor and textile artist who is nationally recognized for her representations of botanicals and the human body. Using media ranging from embroidery to bronze, Maloney challenges ideas of “women’s work,” craft, and artistic labour. She looks at Western history and culture through a feminist lens, and the results are depictions of plants, bones, and organs that reference gender, pleasure, desire, and power. Her craft is joyful, beautiful, and indicative of the structured nature of our biological, social and economic systems.

Music, food, and drinks ⎮ 6pm – 9pm, AWE 3rd floor

Let’s celebrate! Head up to the third floor to join us for music, food and drinks provided by Windsor Eats.
