Recording Workshops with CJAM

Interested in learning about recording, radio, and the art of sound? AWE is boosting CJAM’s signal to make learning the art of audio production easy and approachable.

Join CJAM for any of the workshops below:

CJAM is located in the lower level of the CAW Student Centre at the University of Windsor, right next to the Assumption Church parking lot. Free parking is available in that lot. To find us, head downstairs (via stairs or elevator), walk past the pharmacy, and turn right down the hall.

General Intro to Audio Production

Time & Date: Saturday, August 16, 12 – 2pm EDT

Thinking of starting a radio show or podcast?

This beginner-friendly session will show you how to record your voice in CJAM’s studios using proper mic technique and simple editing tools. It also pairs well with our Field Recording & Sound Collage workshop happening the following week.

You’ll learn:

  • How to record clean, professional voice audio in the studio
  • Tips on mic placement and recording conventions
  • The basics of editing with Audacity

Perfect for new volunteers or anyone who wants to sound good behind the mic.

Field Recording & Sound Collage Workshop

Time & Date: Saturday, August 23 · 12 – 3pm EDT

Explore the art of sound in the world around you.

This hands-on workshop introduces field recording techniques and creative audio collage. Perfect for artists, storytellers, or anyone curious about experimental audio work.

What to bring:

  • A smartphone or handheld recorder (CJAM has a few available if needed)

What you’ll learn:

  • Basics of field recording and mic technique
  • How to transfer files to Audacity
  • Sound collage fundamentals: layering, effects, and building texture.

Interested in radio or podcasting? This beginner-friendly workshop offers a supportive space to learn the basics of studio voice recording at CJAM. You’ll get hands-on practice with mic technique, recording conventions, and simple editing tools.

You’ll learn:

  • How to record clean, professional voice audio in the studio
  • Tips on mic placement and recording conventions
  • The basics of editing with Audacity

This session is intended for Indigenous participants curious about using audio as a tool for storytelling or creative expression.
